It’s impossible not to like the way Tom Pidcock runs
Genius how to define Tom Pidcock? Well that, genius, and this spring we have seen it.
Small, young, restless, he lives in a generation of monsters without any kind of fear.
I called him, when the cyclocross, “Juan, without fear”, it still seems so to me.
He has not won a monument, the best, when they are well, more or less clearly surpass him, but uncle is there, giving the callous, he does not hide.
In a sport in which one wins and almost always the same, the balance for many of the mortals goes through things like what we say about Pidock.
In winter, he was not at the level of Van Aert and Van der Poel, but he “pulled” as much as he couldentering their troubles and getting on the podium with the two monsters, when not with each other.
He withdrew from the mud before the World Cup, aware that everything that focused on the road before could go well for him.
Nothing to reproach Pidcock, the guy tries it against giants. Against VDP and Van Aert in cyclocross, against Pogacar at Amstel, today with Remco.
He is learning a lot for other years #LBL23— JoanSeguidor (@JoanSeguidor) April 23, 2023
It is not a monument, but his victory at the Strade Bianche is among the dream spring collection pieces.
His distant attack, aware of the power vacuum in the peloton and that way of opening up the gas on each piece of dirt, on the descent… everything was perfect.
A promising start that could presage a brilliant spring, but We are talking about Tom, a cyclist who, unlike others of his generation, does not chain good days with the ease of others.
That attractive irregularity, added to Tirreno’s fall, did his tricks and took him out on his head, but not completely.
In the triptych of the Ardennes, Tom Pidcock has been in front.
He went out for Pogacar in the final attack of the Amstel and for Remco in the key of Liège.
In both cases he has died with his boots on, getting on two very expensive podiums, although not always in the right place, as happened in Liège, placing himself to the left of the winner when he was second.
In any case, what are we going to do?
Pidcock has tasted the pain in his legs from not hiding from the big names, he has not wrinkled, he has endured what he could and once destroyed, he has remade himself to save, at least, the podium.
Second in Liège and third in Amstel, it’s not a minor issue, it’s a numerical recognition to run giving you the air and not running the buck.
A luxury to see him compete like this. How many more would be welcome like him?
And be careful, do not rule it out for the future, the guy is growing as a cyclist and do not take him out of the pools in the coming years, we have seen taller towers fall and more drastic changes.
I to Pidcock I see him addressing these in the not too distant future.
