Kyle Reyes, 5th in the world, beat the Dutchman Simeon Catharina (no 9) in his fight for the bronze medal, which went to overtime (golden score).

In the 53rd second, Catharina received a third shido (yellow card) for passivity, which automatically eliminated him.

Reyes, vice world champion in title, had already won the bronze medal at the grand slam tournament in Tel Aviv on February 18.

In Antalya, Reyez won his first two fights before yielding in the quarter-finals to a waza ari from his opponent, the Swiss Daniel Eich, 34 seconds from the end of regulation time.

A repechage win propelled the Canadian into a bronze medal fight against Catharina Simeon.

It was Canada’s third bronze medal after those obtained on Saturday by Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard and François Gauthier-Drapeau. Christa Deguchi won a silver medal on Friday.

The other Canadian entered, Toronto’s Shady El Nahas, world No. 4, was beaten in his first repechage fight, in overtime by Nurlykhan Sharkhan of Kazakhstan, when he was shown a third yellow card for passivity.

The Toronto judoka won bronze at the grand slam in Tbilisi, Georgia.

The next meeting for Canadian judokas is the IJF World Championships which begin on May 7 in Doha, Qatar.
