Loïs Openda gets open in Lens after 2 goals and assist in top match against Monaco | League 1 Uber Eats 2022/2023

The duel between Lens and Monaco was one between the numbers 3 and 4 in Ligue 1 and for Lens striker Loïs Openda also meant a reunion with Monaco coach Philippe Clement, who still had a very young Openda under his wing at Club Brugge.

Clement did not consider the then 18-year-old attacker to be ready for the big job at the time, but 5 years later Openda has become one of the best strikers in Ligue 1.

Clement was allowed to experience that personally on Saturday evening, because the Red Devil was a scourge for his team. The Monegasque defense saw stars against Openda, who already scored twice in the opening fifteen minutes.

With the 2-0 on the board, the home team had a firm grip on the reins and after the break Lens added another one. This time Openda took on the role of declarant, with Thomasson’s 3-0. Monaco could no longer react, Openda received an applause replacement in the end.

Thanks to the victory, Lens jumps over Marseille to 2nd place in Ligue 1. L’OM will play the squatter on the field of Lyon on Sunday evening. Monaco remains number 4 in the standings.
