Men’s Basketball/National 2. The WOSB demonstration against Furdenheim

After the request for relegation to National 3 announced by the presidents of WOSB last week, many questions have arisen, particularly with regard to the behavior of the players at the end of the season. Would they relax or would they be disturbed? As true competitors, they approached the trip to their neighbor Furdenheim in the best possible way, not only by imposing themselves largely, but also by showing an attractive face for the spectators present during this Alsatian derby.

Still deprived of Cissé, the Blues entered the match perfectly, under the impetus of a fiery Lambert. The latter takes advantage of the Savernois collective and is opportunistic in the offensive rebound. The locals try to impose their physical power near the circle by Ballo, but the latter, well taken by Tankou and Sarr but also by the trap set up by coach Ladenburger, cannot exploit his qualities. This two-man take on the inside player frees up spaces for the outsiders on the opposite side. Desestrets and Lombardy convert their three-point attempts. Savernois side, Lambert continues to score. He scored 12 of his team’s 26 points in this first act won by WOSB (15-26).

Correia in a good evening

Stunned, the locals failed to react during the first five minutes of the second quarter. With a battered defense and an attack at half mast, the Furdenheimois only managed to score one small point on free throws. For its part, the WOSB unfolds thanks to the penetrations of Diemer and the shoots on the outskirts of Imhoff. The Savern rotations bring freshness to the team. The WOSB offers a recital to the spectators. His lead climbs to 19 points.

After a time out taken by Boudeville, the Furdenheim coach, the locals wake up through Ballo. Gradually, the Greens found colors in attack but still failed to stop Sarr and his teammates. At the break, the visitors are well ahead with a 20-point lead on the scoreboard (33-53).

Touched in their pride, the Furdenheimois change their philosophy of play by pressing the Savernois. This has the effect of boosting their attacks: Schott and Desestrets score at three points as in one against one. As usual, Imhoff converted two consecutive winning shots, while Tankou and Sarr took advantage of the mistakes of the opposing defense to score near the circle. Tindiller recovers several offensive rebounds. Discreet until then, Correia chained three-point baskets out of nowhere to give his team a 29-point lead. In the last minutes of the third act, the visitors lost several balloons that the locals exploited in stride (59-81, 30e).

The latest adjustments from Boudeville, who plays “small ball” and relies on outside address and rhythm, disturb the Savern defense a little more. The hosts continue to score but fail to stop Correia three-pointers and Bach one-on-one near the circle. The visitors maintain their lead on the scoreboard and condemn the Furdenheimois to the descent in National 3. For their part, the young shooters of WOSB, Zilliox and Geyer, end the meeting on the ground to close this derby.

The logic was respected, at the end of this duel between the last and the third ex aequo of this hen D of N2. The WOSB only has one home game to play in N2, next Saturday (8 p.m.) against Tremblay.
