Mikel Arteta chose to be extra careful in playing Gabriel Jesus, who was out for three months due to a knee injury that required surgery. The 25-year-old striker finally started in the Premier League for the first time since recovering when beating Leeds 4-1 on Saturday (1/4), and immediately contributed two goals – his first goal since October. Now, the former Manchester City player says he is ready to play more often and help out The Gunners won the league title.
WHAT DID THEY SAY:
Jesus said to ArsenalMedia on his recovery and on being taken off after an hour against Leeds: “I like a challenge. Of course, when I get injured and have to have surgery, it’s not easy but if God gives me a challenge it’s because I can face it and come back stronger.”
“I remember the first day of rehab, working hard and thinking about how to come back. If I don’t work hard I will come back soft. Of course, everyone wants to play the full 90 minutes, I think I am ready to play more. But when the referee said I was taken off, I was a bit disappointed because I wanted to play.”
“But of course I respect the manager and also the other players. So, 60 minutes, but I really enjoyed it.”
THE SITUATION:
Jesus has now scored seven goals for Arsenal, having moved to the Emirates Stadium from Manchester City in the summer of 2022, and will be hoping to reach double figures before the season ends.
