The French men’s rugby sevens team took seventh place in the Singapore leg of the World Tour, after losing both matches on Sunday.
Disappointment for the French men’s rugby sevens team… Second in Vancouver and third in Hong Kong in recent weeks, the Blues could not do better than seventh in the Singapore leg of the World Tour. After a good day on Saturday, when they won two games and conceded a draw against the United States, which allowed them to finish first in their group, the French lost their two games on Sunday.
It must be said that they were not really lucky in the quarter-finals by inheriting the formidable Fijians (third in the world while France is fourth), who finished second in their group following a defeat against Samoa. Facing a team they have not beaten since December 2021, eight defeats in a row, the Blues suffered another defeat: 33-21.
France remains fourth with two stages remaining
If Jean-Pascal Barraque had scored a try in the first minute, Fiji responded with three tries to lead 19-7 at halftime. They added a fourth on the restart, then a fifth shortly before the end of the match, and the tries of Varian Pasquet (11th) and Joaquim Trouabal (14th +1) will ultimately remain anecdotal. Following this defeat, France therefore had to play a classification match against Great Britain, tenth in the world, and they lost again: 17-12.
The Brits started strong with two tries in six minutes, before Trouabal closed the gap before halftime (5-10, mt). Roddick scored another try for Great Britain in the 12th minute and when Stephen Parez scored at the last minute it was too late to hope for a comeback. It will therefore be a seventh place finish for the French team and the ten points that go with it in the general classification. This allows them to keep fourth place, before the last two stages in Toulouse and London in May. Remember that France has never done better than sixth in the Men’s World Tour.
