Supporter West Ham died after being hit by a train in Ghent-Sint-Pieters

A supporter of the English football team West Ham United died last night after being hit by a train in Ghent Sint-Pieters. The accident happened at 9.45 pm, more than 300 meters before the station of Gent-Sint-Pieters. A train traveling in the direction of Ostend hit the man. He was seriously injured and taken to hospital. There he succumbed to his injuries.

The accident happened after West Ham United’s football match against AA Gent in the first leg of the Conference League. The man had climbed onto the verge of track 12 via the street side after the game and ended up on the track. The public prosecutor of East Flanders confirms that it is a regrettable accident.

The collision also caused temporary disruption to train traffic in the vicinity of Gent-Sint-Pieters station. All train traffic was back to normal this morning.
