The 19th edition of the AESGOLF Ladies International Championship, held at Tecina Golf, ends | Green Rubber

The competition was held on April 18 and 21 in the 18 holes facing the sea at Tecina Golf, which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary. The La Gomera field presented its best clothes to welcome the ladies in this great sporting event.

The championship week is divided into two competitions: doubles and singles. The first day is played under the “best ball” doubles modality, the second day is “greensome” doubles and the last two days are individual medal play or stableford, depending on the category.

The results of the week were quite good, as we enjoyed very favorable weather and high-quality golf was seen with a magnificent course and greens in magnificent condition.

In the double scratch category, the couple formed by the sisters Maria and Natalia Rubio Rubio was the winner, with a final result of 153 shots.

In second position with 158 strokes Celia Nebot Lorente and Deirdre Maher Owens.

In the 1st handicap category, Pilar Bernard Moreno and Cristina Huidobro Fernandez won with 138 strokes, just one stroke behind the second couple Ana Maria Poggio Diaz-Tejeiro and Sylvia Quijano Gonzalez, who finished with 139 strokes.

In the 2nd category, Maria Angeles Ruberte Herrero and Maria Montañes de la Figuera with 77 points were the winners, ahead of Maria del Carmen Cabo Olmos and Carmen Riu Mora with 75 points.

In the singles, Paloma Eguidazu Mayor stood out, who prevailed with 166 strokes. In second place, with 169 shots, Pia Allende Eulate.

As Senior Master (+70) winner Isabel Lorenzana Diez with 150 points and in Super Senior (65+) Paloma Eguidazu Mayor, with 140 points.

The winner in the 1st individual category was Marita Knipper with 144 strokes, only 2 strokes behind Celia Nebot Llorente, with 146 strokes.

In the 2nd Category, Cristina Martinez de la Vega won with 74 points and Maria del Carmen Cabo Olmos finished second with 71 points.

In the 3rd Category, Maria Montañes de la Figuera was the winner with 78 points and in second position Maria Lezama-Leguizamon Dolagaray with 76 points.

As the culmination of a wonderful week of golf, the gala dinner took place at Club Laurel, where the trophy delivery ceremony was also held, presided over by the AESGOLF Ladies board of directors.

The service and the quality of the dishes served during dinner was, as always, exquisite to the delight of the players.

The Tecina Golf is located on the Lomada de Tecina, the course that overlooks the blue ocean was designed by the prominent British architect and writer Donald Steel, who has defined it as: “the most exciting and challenging project that I designed and built. It’s unusual in that you have to walk up to the first tee and then it’s downhill all the way. The views are amazing.”

Its fairways and greens are surrounded by an exuberant sample of Canarian flora, such as cardones and tabaibas, as well as fruits such as bananas, avocados or mangoes, which give off their characteristic aroma.

La Gomera was declared a World Biosphere Reserve in 2012. Soon this unique course will host the VI Senior Canary Islands Championship (June 3 and 4).
