“The Mountain” of Agrupación Señor Serrano concludes the Stagione Regionale

Final appointment with the Regional Contemporary Season programmed by the Centro Servizi Culturali S. Chiara of Trento in collaboration with the Teatro Stabile of Bolzano and the Trentino Theater Coordination.

The task of closing the 2022/23 programming will be up to the Catalan company Señor Serrano AssociationThat Wednesday 3 and Thursday 4 May will be busy at SanbàPolis Theater of Trent with The Mountaina multimedia show in English with Italian surtitles, which explores the boundary between trust and faith, between truth and reality in the age of the Internet.

The Mountain is a production of GREC Festival de Barcelona, ​​Teatre Lliure, Conde Duque Centro de Cultura Contemporanea, CSS Teatro Stabile di Innovazione del Friuli – Venezia Giulia, Teatro Stabile del Veneto – Teatro Nazionale, Zona K, Monty Kultuurfaktorij, Grand Theatre, Feikes Huis.

But what is true? And what is false? Did a fact really happen because the TV says so? The new work by Agrupación Señor Serrano, a Catalan company founded in 2006, appreciated all over the world and awarded the Leone d’Argento at the Venice Biennale in 2015.

«There is a widespread image that traces the history of ideas – explains the company presenting the show – climbing a mountain, overcoming difficulties to reach the top and, once there, seeing the world “as it is”. Therefore, reach the truth and not just shadows and reflections. But is it really so? Is there truth?”.

The Mountain is an intelligently refined, but at the same time caustic, sharp as a blade show, in which the story of the first Everest expedition (whose outcome is still uncertain) is intertwined with Orson Welles’ War of the Worlds, and then more players of badminton playing baseball, a fake news website, a flying drone over the audience, lots of snow, fragmented images and a satisfied Vladimir Putin speaking about trust and truth.

All presented on a white and diaphanous stage: scale miniatures on practicable ones, a radio studio, a reproduction of Everest, portable projection screens and cinematographic tripods constitute a space halfway between a television set, a museum and a field from badminton. An ideal space in which the performers can play by obstructing or fragmenting the vision of what happens on stage, just like the truth, which is often presented to us obstructed and fragmented.

A network of ideas, stories, images, actions and concepts underlie the dramatic framework of The Mountain. Materials deployed in layers that mix creating unexpected connections and give life to a show that presents itself as an exploration without a map on the myth of truth.

In the “post-truth” era, Agrupación Señor Serrano signs the (currently) most beautiful and most mature show in its creative history. Among screens, platforms, miniature models, human bodies present or reproduced on video, the scenic device activated by the group reveals, with irony, the inexorable decline not only of “communication”, but also, and above all, of politics.
