The coach of Mercado’s recreational team had this makeshift bunker built Sunday and was ordered by the city not to publicly erect such a structure, according to Maisel.

Officials said Mercado was one of the players who helped the coach dismantle the dugout when it collapsed on Monday. Maisel said he was shot in the face and taken to hospital, where he died late Tuesday night.

No criminal charges are expected in this matter.

“Nothing criminal happened here,” Maisel said. “No charges will be brought against the coach. Nobody is charged. This is just a tragedy.”

Mercado’s league coach Gerardo Diaz said he was too distraught to speak about Thursday’s tragedy.

“The name of the team is Harrisburg Internationals, but I want you to change it to Angels — Harrisburg International Angels,” Diaz sobbed lazily to NBC News.

“I don’t remember anything now. Could you call me another time? I would like to talk to you, my head is still a bit cloudy.”

Central Penn College It is located in Summerdale about six miles west of 7th & Radnor Sports Park, across the Susquehanna River.

The school said in a statement it was “deeply saddened” by Mercado’s death and explained that he had been “working on a non-university program.”

“Our family at Penn Central College is devastated by the loss of ownership,” said President Linda Federizzi Williams he said in a statement.

“As friends turned family, we mourn the loss of one of us, a promising young athlete who senselessly lost his life while helping others enjoy the sport he loved so much. No words can adequately express our sorrow.”
