All-Japan Judo Championships — Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An article from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

The All-Japan Judo Championships (also known as Zen Nihon), in French “All Japan Judo Championship” (and in Japanese Zennihon judo senshuken taikai) is a Judo competition held every year in Japan. Men’s and women’s competitions are separate. The men’s tournament takes place at the Nippon Budokan and the women’s tournament at the Yokohama Cultural Gymnasium generally in April.

It is an “All categories” competition (without weight categories).

For the Japanese it is a very prestigious competition, it is one of the three major competitions with the world championships and the Olympic Games.

Until 2011 the competition followed its own rules. It now takes place with the IJF (International Judo Federation) rules.
