ATP Masters Madrid: Struff moves into the round of 16 again – Medvedev messes with the audience

Curious: In the fourth duel with Lajovic, Struff lost the first set for the fourth time – and yet left the field as the winner for the fourth time.

Struff had lost in qualifying on Tuesday, but got into the main draw as a lucky loser and first knocked out Italian Lorenzo Sonego and then Ben Shelton (USA / No. 32). Struff had already reached the round of 16 at the Masters in Monte-Carlo and knocked out Casper Ruud, third in the world rankings.

Medvedev also made it into the round of 16 in three sets and celebrated his 300th victory on the ATP tour. The Muscovite defeated his 22-year-old compatriot Alexander Shevchenko 4: 6, 6: 1, 7: 5. The US Open champion was already a break behind in the decisive third set, but still turned the tide.

After the mixed first sentence, Medvedev had a fight with the audience in the Spanish capital. The 27-year-old animated the whistling fans and provocatively held his index finger to his ear.

Previously, Olympic champion Alexander Zverev (Hamburg), who meets top favorite Carlos Alcaraz from Spain on Tuesday, and Daniel Altmaier (Kempen) had reached the round of 16.
