Christoph Daum starts second chemo – trainer legend suffers from lung cancer | Sports

Tuesday, late morning, the phone rings. “Hello, Christoph Daum here,” reports the coach.

He calls BILD back from the university clinic in Cologne. “Today my chemotherapy begins twice,” says Daum (69), who has lung cancer.

At least four infusion units will be necessary in the next few weeks. He had tolerated the first block last fall well.

There was great concern at the end of last week. Then it became known that Daum had to be hospitalized for shortness of breath in New York, where he wanted to attend two of his son Jean-Paul’s graduation parties. Diagnosis: pneumonia.

Now the first personal sign of life!

Daum, who was champion with Stuttgart in 1992, told BILD: “I was given the full range of medication and was nursed back to health.” Friday he left the hospital after four days. His doctor in Cologne ordered him to return home immediately.

Because no flight was available, Daum turned on his friend Reiner Calmund (74). The ex-manager of Bayer Leverkusen quickly organized flight tickets through a former Lufthansa board member. Daum has been back in Germany since Monday.
