Classics in Sosnová: Already this weekend, the engines of Czechoslovak legends will roar at Česká Lípa

Over 120 sports and touring cars, 20 formulas and over 40 motorcycles. This is this year’s lineup of the Sosnová Classic event, which will take place on the weekend of May 13 and 14 near Česká Lípa. In addition to Czechoslovak legends, the organizers also promise pre-war Bugatti cars or exhibition drives of Škoda, Laurin & Klement or MTX cars.

Among the important personalities of the motoring scene, we can look forward to Emil Lindholm, the reigning World Rally Champion in the WRC2 category, or the matador Jan Kopecky, who dominated this category in 2018. On the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the first Czechoslovak race in northern Bohemia, there will also be a commemorative a gathering of vehicles and motorcycles of the Laurin & Klement brand, which will honor the memory of the historic distance race Česká Lípa – Doksy.

Laurin & Klement BSC from 1908

One of the oldest four-wheeled participants in the event will be this Laurin & Klement rolling artifact. After many years and a thorough renovation, a fully operational example of the BSC model will leave the gates of the Škoda Museum. All the important mechanical components of the car have been preserved in their original condition, the 600 kg car is powered by a fourteen-horsepower engine with a power of 10 horsepower, enabling a speed of up to 50 km/h.

The beautiful 1908 Laurin & Klement BSC exhibit is fully mobile, much of the mechanical components are even original!

Remarkable exhibits from both private collections and the Škoda Museum or the National Technical Museum in Prague will be on display. The Mladoboleslav automobile company will then present a complete collection of competition cars, from the iconic Škoda Sport from 1949 to the modern special Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 of the Škoda Motorsport team.

Škoda 1100 OHC and 1100 OHC Coupé

The 1100 OHC and 1100 OHC Coupé sports cars will transport visitors to the second half of the 1950s. The 11-speed car with an output of a modest 92 horsepower by today’s standards allowed cars weighing only about 550 kg to speed up to a fantastic 200 km/h, Czechoslovak aces such as Václav Bobek or Miroslav Fousek were most often behind the wheel.

The Škoda 1100 OHC could whiz by at a speed of up to 200 km/h, later a closed Coupé version was also created, which replaced the laminate body with aluminum.

The real gem will be the presence of all three prototypes of the MTX 160 RS special, and there will also be a world-class Czech icon – the Škoda Octavia WRC in the war colors of the Škoda Motorsport team, with which our driver Roman Kresta competed in the Monte Carlo Rally in 2002. The racing special, which is now a traveling exhibit, only recently returned to the Czech Republic.

Anyone who is a fan of historic sports cars should definitely not miss the Driving Camp in Sosnová near Česká Lípa. Owners of rare exhibits not only from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, but also from abroad – namely from Austria, Hungary, Germany or France – have already promised to participate.
