Claus-Dieter Wollitz has just become champion of the Northeast Regional League with Energie Cottbus. The coach can hardly be happy about that. On the contrary: Wollitz uses the success to settle accounts with the German Football Association.

CLaus-Dieter Wollitz felt “empty at the moment” after winning the title with FC Energie Cottbus. Nevertheless, the champion coach from Lausitz was already looking ahead to the promotion games to the 3rd league at the moment of triumph in the football regional league north-east. In addition, Wollitz attacked the German Football Association (DFB) again with sharp words.

It’s sad not to be happy after a championship, said a visibly agitated Wollitz after the 1-0 win against SV Babelsberg, with a view to the all-or-nothing promotion games. Cottbus meets the representative of the regional league Bayern there on June 7th and 11th. “This DFB is actually not worth talking about at all anymore,” said Wollitz and once again reiterated his call for the respective champions to be promoted directly. “Please DFB, take off your respect slogan! You should give regional league teams respect because you work hard here and not everything can be taken for granted,” he emphasized.

Wollitz was also dissatisfied with the fact that it has not yet been finally determined whether Energie Cottbus will really meet Unterhaching. For economic reasons, the Bayern champions have not yet finally committed to participating in the promotion games. Without specifically addressing the DFB, Wollitz wished for a clearer line here. “One club can say that we will decide from May 27th whether we will play a relegation. These are machinations, very questionable, abnormal,” he explained.

Catching up after a bumpy start

First of all, the second regional league championship after 2018 was celebrated at Energie Cottbus. Beer and champagne were already flowing in the stadium of friendship. On the penultimate match day, the Lausitzer decided the head-to-head race with newly promoted Rot-Weiss Erfurt in their favour. The bumpy start to the season with only seven points from the first five games was mainly due to the reorganization of the offensive. In the meantime, Cottbus has scored the most goals of all 18 teams with 65 goals. In addition, energy is the second-best offensive. Since the 14th matchday, the ex-Bundesliga team, who are among the favorites, have never been below second place.

“You have to drink from this cup. Who knows if you’ll be champion again,” said defender Jonas Hildebrandt. “But then we’ll be professional enough to focus on the three important games,” he added. In addition to the two promotion games, another highlight awaits Energie Cottbus with the state cup final against FSV Luckenwalde on June 3rd. Before that, the freshly crowned champion will play the last but meaningless regional league game at Chemie Leipzig next Sunday.

In the middle of the Müller interview, referee Aytekin freaked out

FC Bayern loses against Leipzig and no longer has the championship in their own hands. But not only the players of the record champions are eaten up after the game. Referee Deniz Aytekin railed against an ex-colleague in the catacombs.
