Following Remco Evenepoel, Mattia Cattaneo, Josef Cerny, Jan Hirt and Louis Vervaeke have also tested positive for the coronoavirus. The quartet will no longer start in the 11th stage and will leave the Giro.
“After Remco tested positive on Sunday evening, there were still 2 riders on Monday morning who were not feeling well. Their antigen tests turned out to be negative,” says team doctor Toon Cruyt.
“We then took PCR tests from the 7 remaining riders. These turned out to be positive for 4 boys. We will continue to monitor the 3 riders and the staff members who remain and will maintain our test protocol.”
