FC Augsburg managed to stay up in the league by hook or by crook and will soon be leaving for vacation. Ermedin Demirovic is already proclaiming new goals.

Not every Augsburg player could hide how the relegation came about at the weekend. Support from TSG Hoffenheim was needed, otherwise FCA would actually have slipped down to 16th place after their frightening performance in Mönchengladbach.
But as it is, coach Enrico Maassen’s team will be going into their 13th Bundesliga season in a row from July and will retain the stamp of the undelegated. “We could have decided it much earlier,” admitted Ermedin Demirovic, after all Augsburg had built up an eight-point cushion on the relegation place. “In the end it took a little longer, that’s the way it is.”
Perhaps Augsburg’s top scorer involuntarily gave the most appropriate conclusion for this season, which has the weakest points since 2019: it’s just like that, it’s okay. Somehow it was still enough, despite only one win from the final eleven games.
Demirovic: “We want to really attack next year”
Therefore, the goal that Demirovic is taking with him on vacation for the coming season was a bit surprising: “We want to really attack next year,” he said. “The team is young and hungry and they also want to have a good season or better than hope for the last day. Maybe on the last day we want to play for the Conference League or for tenth place, whatever. That will be be the goal, we will prepare for that and I’m really looking forward to it.” Sequel follows.
