Direction France for young baseball players

Ten young people from Shawinigan will have the experience of a lifetime when they fly to France on May 20 to take part in a baseball tournament at La Guerche de Bretagne.

Jean-François Daneault has been working on this project for three years now, and it must be said that the pandemic has had its say in the delay of the process. “We were supposed to play in the 12U category and three years later, it will be the 15U category. We will be the only international team at the tournament among the 16 teams. »

Jean-François Daneault played for two years at La Guerche de Bretagne and he still has good ties with the people involved.

“It will be the experience of a lifetime for our young people, in addition to being able to play baseball in France, they will be able to visit several places. As I still have good friends there, I know we will be treated like royalty! »

However, the tournament organizers do not use a conventional baseball. It’s the same size, but a little softer, so it’s hard to hit this ball straight. “There is less risk of injury with this ball which is more rubber. It allows you to play more strategic baseball with more cushioning. It’s still special, but I’m happy my friends sent me two balls so that we can practice here before the tournament. It won’t be a shock to the tournament. »

Over the past three years, young people have carried out various fundraising campaigns in order to be able to participate in this overseas tournament.

The players and coaches are: Charles-André Daneault, Nathan Blain, Phillipe Tremblay, Anthony Boisvert, Lucas Vallée, Lukas Désaulniers, Sinai Paquet, Zack Thibault, Tom Cloutier, William Turcotte. Head Coach: Jean-Francois Daneault, Assistants: Éric Boisvert, Pascal Tremblay, Patrcik Blain Manager: Genevieve Gélinas.
