“The stands are full. After the stoppage due to the pandemic, we have spent two years of sustained growth with the aim of getting boys and girls to play sports” explained Eloy Santos, coordinator of the Municipal Sports Games and one of those in charge of delivering the trophies. The day started at 9:30 with the youth category, with a 36-44 victory in the Dominican Basketball League in Madrid against International College Spain, in a very even duel decided by details. In the women’s final, Gaudem defeated Dinámica B 21-34. Just when a player was scoring a three-pointer, Eloy Santos expressed the difficulty of having come this far: “We are talking about teams that have reached a final. Municipalities are the great unknown he added. This year only in collective sports we have had almost 5,000 teams and in basketball we are over 1,000″
At 10:45 the finals of the cadet category began. BJC A beat CB Moratalaz 33-15 in the men’s match and Gaudem, after beating Fundacion Balia 18-24, repeated the victory in the women’s match. Santos Moraga, president of the FBM, stressed the importance of the Municipal Sports Games. “These players are improving and the competition is getting better and better. From the first editions until now there has been a radical change, but we must continue to improve”he pointed.
Already in the last hour, at 12:00, Lourdes Negro beat Real Canoe NC 41-34 thanks to a great final sprint in the last quarter and Halcones beat J. Cierva Amidedecu 36-15. Raúl Martín, promoter of the General Directorate of Sports, presented the last trophy together with Eloy Martínez, promoter of the Salamanca district. There was joy in the victories and tears in the defeats, but Santos Moraga pointed out that “The important thing about sport is that boys and girls enjoy what they do. As they are finals, those who lose are sad, but they shouldn’t be because they are doing what they like and have reached the final. That is already a prize “.
