The City of Candiac will receive up to $20,000 to defend itself in court against the BODA Group in the case of the old golf course, announced the Union of Municipalities (UMQ), which agreed to pay it this amount, on 3 may.

The money comes from the UMQ’s Municipal Legal Action Fund, which allows municipalities to fight in court “in cases likely to have impacts for the entire municipal community”, explained the UMQ. .

The latter will support Candiac up to $10,000 in the file concerning the claim for nullity and unenforceability of the BODA Group, then up to $10,000 in the file concerning the claim for damages, she detailed.

On April 27, The Press revealed that the amount of the lawsuit against the City of Candiac and the Montreal Metropolitan Community (CMM) by the owner of the land is $69.2 million. Remember that a new CMM regulation to protect certain natural environments, including the former golf course, temporarily blocks any housing project in the targeted areas. Other towns where golf courses are located are also being sued by disgruntled developers, including Rosemère, which is facing a $278 million lawsuit.

“The City expresses its gratitude to the UMQ for its financial support in this file, which will effectively contribute to covering part of the costs related to professional fees. The file being judicialized, we will refrain from commenting further, ”said Candiac for his part at the Reflection.
