The Gustavo A. Madero Mayor’s Office (GAM) began a series of strategies and works to promote and reinforce the practice of combat disciplines and other sports towards the next Children’s, Youth and Paralympic Sports Games in Mexico City (CDMX).
For this, the sports authorities in this demarcation to the north of the capital held a meeting with teachers and those responsible for the disciplines of judo, karate, boxing, taekwondo and associated fights, disciplines that are part of the highest sports event in the capital of the country, as part of its general program of the 2023-2024 sports process.
Among the objectives that are sought, it was mentioned that of developing a technical manual for each sport and improvements in sports facilities, as well as that of bringing together all the practitioners of the respective disciplines, to detect talents and form the representative teams of the mayor’s office.
Likewise, to increase the number of sports disciplines and GAM athletes who are present in the next CDMX Sports Games, and thereby increase the number of medals to climb the general medal table.
This meeting was headed by the general director of Social Development at the GAM, Rubén Linares Flores, who in an interview commented that the Gustavo A. Madero Mayor’s Office is a territory of great athletes.
“We have realized that there are many sports talents in sports facilities and outside them, such as parks and medians, esplanades, squares and houses of culture, where we have practitioners of different sports disciplines and we want to integrate all of them into a single line of job”.
With these actions, he commented, they seek to know each athlete to have a census for each sports discipline that exists in the GAM, in order to integrate them to establish a single work plan, both for recreational and competitive sports.
“It also seeks to attract more sports talent, open up to public and private schools so they know that we are waiting for them at our sports facilities to practice the discipline of their choice.”
With this, he said, they also seek an integration of the practitioners to have representative teams, along with improving facilities and sports equipment for a good preparation towards the next Sports Games in Mexico City.
“We want to increase the number of athletes and increase in the medal table, so we are making a very broad and open call to all practitioners of the sport to join the different disciplines.”
“In this way, we seek to generate a better offer and improve our sports facilities for our sports scholarship holders who are included in the Becando Ando program, which is a social program of economic support for sports connoisseurs, so that they teach children and young people in school age and that this allows us to detect sports talents”.
These works will have a double impact, since in addition to forming representative teams, it will help children and young people to enjoy sports, be it recreational or competitive, and they will move away from leisure and possible addictions of any kind, to that in the future we have a better coexistence and society, which is one of the objectives of the mayor Francisco Chiguil Figueroa, who is the one who heads these activities”.
The general director of Social Development affirmed that, currently, in the GAM there are outstanding athletes and gyms where good athletes continue to be trained, but what they are looking for is “to systematize all this work to give it a boost and for everyone to feel part of a joint effort with the government of Gustavo A. Madero to channel talent and love for sports”.
For his part, Octavio Rodrigo Domínguez Sánchez, coordinator of culture, recreation and sports at the GAM, pointed out that this meeting, this program has a calendar to prepare the participation of the representative teams of the GAM in the next CDMX Sports Games.
“We have defined objectives and strategies that will allow us to reach several goals, such as climbing the medal table and increasing the number of sports disciplines that represent the GAM.
Currently, 16 disciplines represent us in the CDMX Sports Games, when we have the capacity to reach 24. They are areas of opportunity that do not currently participate, but we have infrastructure and teachers who teach them”.
He noted that this effort is also aimed at efficiently using the sports spaces and increasing the participation and presence of the mayor’s office in the Sports Games.
“With this, if this development goal is met, we can guarantee that, directly and proportionally, the number of medals we achieve for each cycle will increase.
We started working with combat sports that are judo, karate, taekwondo, box and associated fights, which are the disciplines that enter the CDMX Sports Games; later we will go with the other individual disciplines and we will finish with the group ones”.
Finally, I point out that in Gustavo A. Madero they seek to be one of the first mayors to start their sports process with practice and competitions or internal limits in each discipline, to arrive as well prepared for the CDMX Children’s, Youth and Paralympic Sports Games. .
