Guillaume Gaulin came very close to a clear round at the end of last week.

This is only his first year in his category, and yet it is clear that Guillaume Gaulin already has everything a great. The Valdorien first dismissed competitors from British Columbia and Ontario in order to reach the semi-final stage. It was then that things went wrong for the region’s judoka, who rubbed shoulders with the tournament favorite in the person of Alexandre Arencibia.

Despite the offer of an interesting opposition, Guillaume Gaulin bowed before getting the better of his compatriot from Quebec by ippon, in the fight for the bronze medal. “It’s a very promising performance for the future. Guillaume showed that he was capable of accosting the best in Canada. Whoever beat him in the semi-final won the final hands down and had more difficulty against Guillaume. In his development, that puts him in a good place,” said Jean-Laurier Bérubé, technical director of Club Juvaldo.

From the experience gained

Guillaume Gaulin, who also trains at the National Training Center in Montreal, was not the only athlete from Club Juvaldo de Val d’Or to be in contention for these 2023 Canadian Open Championships. Ayden Berger and Louka Vallière were themselves in action on the tatamis. The first of them was also celebrating his first participation in a competition of such magnitude. Even if he did not manage to taste the taste of victory, Ayden Berger was able to gain experience in the U16 -50kg. “It was a great experience for him, and it’s interesting for his development,” congratulates Jean-Laurier Bérubé.

Same satisfaction on the side of Louka Vallière among seniors -81kg. With two wins for as many losses, the judoka finished ninth overall. This is his best career result at the Canadian championships.

This competition was a point of honor for Club Juvaldo de Val d’Or’s season. A colorful 2022-2023 exercise, which has something to delight the technical director of the Témiscabitibi training. “It was a great season, and a few members did well in various tournaments,” congratulates Jean-Laurier Bérubé.
