Jonathan Matias advances to the round of 16 of the Mexico Challenge

This Wednesday (3), Brazil was very present in the singles table of the Challenge do México in badminton. On the men’s side, Jonathan Matias qualified for the round of 16, while Ygor Coelho is in the second round. Among the women, Samia Lima also won in her debut.

Jonathan Matias opened the day against the Egyptian Adham Elgamal. The Brazilian was superior in the confrontation and won the match by 12/21 and 15/21. Then Jonathan won another match – victory over Englishman Rohan Midha by 21/16 and 21/19. Thus, he qualified for the round of 16 where he faces the Czech Jan Louda this Thursday (4). Ygor Coelho has also advanced the scene. In the first round, a quiet victory over Youcef Medel, from Algeria, by 21/6 and 21/9. In the next phase, Ygor faces the American Enrico Asunción.

Finally, Brazil still had Davi Silva in the men’s singles draw. He took the lead in the duel against Joakim Oldorff, from the Finn. But the Finn managed to turn around and won the match 2-1 (20/22, 21/6 and 21/8).

In the women’s tournament, Samia Lima won in the first round. She defeated the Italian Katharina Fink by doublet 21/16 and will face the American Ishika Jaiswal in the second round. Closing the day for the Brazilians, Juliana Vieira lost in her debut 2-1 to Jennie Gai of the United States. The American won the match with partials of 23/21, 17/21 and 21/14.
