José Quijada successfully came out of Tommy John

José Quijada successfully underwent Tommy John surgery on his left elbow on May 17, according to MLB.com. Following the results of an MRI, the Angels determined that Quijada needed the season-ending surgical procedure.

The left-handed reliever will have to go through a lengthy rehab process for about 12 months, so he could return in mid-2024. Quijada recorded four saves and five holds, while posting a 6.00 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 10 appearances before of getting injured.

Quijada is one of three Venezuelan pitchers who saw their 2023 season end due to a ruptured ulnar collateral ligament in their pitching elbows. The most recent was the right Luis García, of the Astros. Before that, Germán Márquez, from the Rockies, was diagnosed.
