Judo World Championships | France facing the ultimate challenge: beating judo in the mixed team final

Like a deja vu. The French judo team qualified for the final of the mixed event of the World Championships on Sunday in Doha. Again, you might say. As in the four previous editions, the Blues will face the Japanese in the final, always crowned in this event since it appeared on the program of the Worlds.

In the semi-finals, the Blues beat the Germans 4-1 thanks in particular to Marie-Eve Gahié (-70 kg), falling from the vice-world champion in the category Giovanna Scoccimarro. The draw had reserved an affordable course for the Blues on the road to the final, with the biggest teams (Japan, South Korea, Georgia, Brazil, etc.) being concentrated in the other half of the table.

Having fallen from a height on Saturday by being eliminated as soon as she entered the individual competition, Romane Dicko set an example for the rest of the group during the first duel, won 4-1 against Lithuania. Then in the quarter-finals, led by Sarah-Léonie Cysique (-57 kg) and Gahié, the Blues easily dominated Romania 4-0.

On the last day of the Worlds, French judokas are therefore guaranteed to collect an eighth medal, in silver or gold.
