Kim Joong-soo, vice president of the Korea Badminton Association, was elected president of the Asian Badminton Federation on the 1st.

According to the federation, new chairman Kim was elected president by winning 29 out of 40 votes in the federation executive election held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), defeating Candidate Ali Almari (Kuwait). This executive election was held at the regular general meeting of the federation, and 40 out of 43 member countries participated in the vote. Chairman Kim’s term of office runs until April 30, 2027.

Having coached the Korean national team from 2001 to 2010, he is the third Korean Federation president after former president Jeong Jeong-hoon (1995-1997) and former president Kang Young-joong (2003-2006). He is also from the first game in history among Korean presidents.

Chairman Kim put ‘One ASIA, One Spirit’ as the slogan in his election pledge. He made campaign promises such as expanding the supply of badminton in developing countries, creating Asian club competitions, reviving youth camps in Asia, and becoming financially self-sufficient for the federation. Previously, he served as vice president of the federation from 2015, and since 2016, he has also been active as vice president of the association. Since 2021, he has also been a director of the World Federation and has been constantly interacting with the world stage, and also contributed to the launch of the Unemployment League as the president of the Korea Unemployment Badminton Federation.

Chairman Kim said, “Thank you to everyone who supported me.” We will try to improve the status of badminton in Asia.”
