The Dominican of the New York Yankees, louis severinois not at all a fan of them running an automated strike zone, the same one he tried while in rehab in the minor leagues with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
“It sucks,” Severino said when asked about the ABS technology used during his appearance on May 10, according to the New York Post’s Dan Martin. “It’s too small,” Severino said. “A hitter can stand there and not swing and be (at) 3-1 every time he’s up.”
The two-time All-Star also believes that ABS will need some adjustment before he makes it to the majors.
“I don’t know how they measure it, but it’s not high enough,” Severino said. “You would have to throw it up the middle and down the zone. (Justin) Verlander is a throwing monster at the top of the zone. How are you going to limit that and have a Hall of Famer like him not throw the four seams out of him?”
Severino He added that the technology gives hitters an advantage over pitchers in Triple-A. The automated strike zone is being implemented in Triple-A this season. However, there is no firm date for Major League Baseball to introduce the change.
