Lionel Messi won the best player award, while Argentina became the team of the year at the Laureus World Sports Awards.
Messi, Argentina’s captain, scored seven goals and won the Golden Ball in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar in December.
He is the first to win the award individually and with a team in the same season.
The outstanding woman of the year is the Jamaican, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who won the award.

This made her the first person to win five medals in athletics.

Manchester United and Denmark player, Christian Eriksen is among the winners of the award, who recovered after falling in the middle of the match at Euro 2020.
