No Ben Yedder for Angers-Monaco, striker punished for delay in training

French international Wissam Ben Yedder will not take part in the AS Monaco match on the lawn of Angers, this Sunday (1 p.m.). The striker was penalized for showing up late for the talk before ASM’s final training session at La Turbie.

Monaco captain Wissam Ben Yedder was not called up by his coach Philippe Clement for the Principality’s team’s trip to Angers on Sunday, due to a delay in training on Saturday, a-t -we learned from sources inside the club.

Captain and top scorer of Monaco with 17 goals in Ligue 1 this season, the 32-year-old French international is therefore not part of a group which was made public on Saturday evening at 10 p.m. by AS Monaco. From internal sources at the club, the reason for this eviction is a sanction taken by its sports management, following its absence, Saturday, for the talk preceding the ultimate training of the team at the performance center of La Turbie.

Players facing their responsibilities

This temporary eviction from the group “only for this match”, indicates the same source, marks the end of a very eventful week in Monaco, following two major defeats in the league (3-0 in Lens, 4-0 at home against Montpellier) who definitively ruled out the team from the podium. The day after the home defeat against Montpellier last Sunday, the club’s sports management called a crisis meeting with the players, before eliminating the Tuesday rest day.

If the players had dinner together on Wednesday, in order to say to themselves that “it was necessary to make the efforts together, to find the union” and that “from this solidarity can come out positive things”, according to the young Brazilian side Vanderson, Clement , for his part, decreed a “day 0” between him and his group at the start of the week, indicating that the eleven in Angers would depend “on the players who are ready, not on the statutes”.

For this essential meeting at the end of the Monaco season, Clement has therefore decided to make an impression and to deprive himself of his top scorer, Ben Yedder, who will also be suspended by the LFP next week for the reception of Lille. (5th in L1), due to three warnings received in less than ten days. Monaco, which plays Sunday in Angers at 1:00 p.m., occupies 4th place in the championship with 61 points before this 34th day.
