Rickson was one of the strongest Gracie in history: legend has it that at UFC 1 they chose Royce to represent the family precisely because he was more human than the unbeatable Rickson and the furious Relson.
What I think of Rickson Gracie – Breathe
Rickson Gracie is probably the strongest jiu-jitsu and valetudo fighter of his generation.
Third of 9 brothers, son of Helio, who created this discipline, and raised in a very harsh Brazil Rickson had the blessing and the curse of an exceptional body and a restless spirit.
This led him to make many questionable choices and then at the pinnacle of his career fate brought the bill. Having come out deeply transformed by this experience, he manages to give a different direction to his life, changes values and generally manages to see and describe his past with a critical eye.
An absolutely pleasant biography even for those unfamiliar with the discipline or the character, it becomes a must-read for those who practice jiu-jitsu and follow MMA: there are interesting insights into the family dynamics of the Gracies, there is no shortage of quarrels between brothers, dramas, politics and overall a look at how MMA came to be.
The fact that Rickson has embraced his second life has allowed him to tell without too many excuses even the less pleasant things he has done.
Since we are all fans here here are some hot stuff we are going to read.
- His version of the famous beach brawl
- His relationship with Helio Gracie
- Because Chuck Norris trained with the Machado’s and not the Gracie’s
- His relationship with Rorion, Royce and Royler.
- His version of the challenge against Yoji Anjo.
