Río de la Plata: an area that never fails

Although with many inaccuracies, without concrete data, waiting for solutions, asking Mother Nature for rain and other things, we continue to talk about how influential the drought is in the sport fishing paradise. For some time now, this is almost the only thing that has been discussed, either because we must search for areas that are not affected by the fault of water or because they are so devoid of it that it is not even worth attending. Lagoons, canals and streams are, without a doubt, the most affected -there are always exceptions-, perhaps for this reason we find in the largest rivers a good escape and a great resource to satisfy our needs as sport fishermen.

Again, then, the option is the Silver river, the same one who is often denigrated with deeds and words, but who always responds with great fishing respect. And this time the idea was to survey it in a large area from South to North and highlight some of the most sought after species in it.: silverside, vogue, tararira, dorado, patí and sea catfish. Each one of us tried to fish it in the places that seemed most convenient for the time, although all of them can share places with others. Next, then, the species that we are going to find throughout the year, with the exception of sea catfish, or at least that is what we thought, since for a long time we have fished for it in months that for years seemed impossible to us, but today they are a reality.

He silverside maybe is- one of the most sought after species, and to try fishing we must use telescopic rods or in sections of 4 to 4.50 m long, small and medium frontal or rotating reels loaded with multifilament thread of 0.14 to 0.20 mm (sometimes the thick one is used more by the wind or the entanglements that the fishing itself deserves), and lines of three buoys that can be made of balsa wood such as Criterion No. 30, 19/1, 8/2 or Cribal No. 226/1 or 220/1, both in different colors. The choice is those that the fishermen see the most when they are with the lines in the water, although we can help by saying that it is always advisable to use matte colors (such as black, fuchsia or orange) with the sun in front. To complete we use branches between 5 and 30 cm long, incarnate with live or salted mojarra, but we can also use filet of dientudo or fresh sardines.

Now getting into the fishing of the have, also called the lady of the river, we can highlight that it is a unique fishing with a tremendous sporting character, which excites anyone who is going to try it. For this activity, always speaking of embarked, we uses 7 to 8 foot long, tip action rods, 14 to 17 lbs. resistance (1 lb = 0.453 kg), front or medium spinning reels loaded with 0.25 or 0.28 mm nylon, and fixed or sliding lines with one or two hooks. We can give as an exception fishing for bogas on the Berisso boardwalks, where perhaps we are going to use a thicker load on the reel, and lines armed with 0.50 mm nylon and 0.40 brads (they are the fuse before a snag ).

Now we are going to roughly group, but no less effectively, the equipment for fishing dthe sea catfish, dorado, patí and tarucha with bait. Rods: 2.10 to 2.50 m long, power between 20 and 30 lbs. medium to large reels loaded with 200 m of 40 lbs. multifilament line and lines suitable for each type of fishing: sea catfish, slipper or set with a single 6/0 hook and 180 to 240 g plumb line. Golden, tarucha and patí: sliding with through weights from 10 to 40 g, snooded with steel leader and 6/0 to 8/0 hooks. Floating lines can also be used with a carrot or plop type buoy.
It would be different if we wanted to fish for dorados and tarariras with artificial ones. In that case we must assemble reeds of baitcasting o spinning from 1.80 to 2.10 m wide, medium reels loaded with 40lb multifilament line and an arsenal of lures we can have so we never run out of the one that works at the moment.

Teamwork

It is worth clarifying that, given the distances and availability of time, we could not go to some of the surveyed places personally, but we trust our friends who always frequent the fishing boats, either as amateurs or guides, such is the case of the Berisso boardwalks, where we contacted Japo Grattoni and Joaquín Hasain to find out how the fishing was there. His answer was that the season has its ups and downs, but that big rowers and carp come out. They also found some golden fish with medium-water and deep lures by brushing sticks and stones from the place.
