FC Bayern becomes champion and at the same time dismisses its top management. A new club boss to replace Oliver Kahn has already been found. But who will follow sporting director Salihamidzic? There is said to have been a meeting with Max Eberl.

Dhe chaos of this season continued at FC Bayern even after the dramatic title salvation. After the 2-1 win at 1. FC Köln, the Munich pros cheered the most emotional German championship in years. “You’re going crazy. It gives you chills down your back,” said Thomas Müller – while the news was circulating that CEO Oliver Kahn and sports director Hasan Salihamidzic had to go. This was decided on Friday, then announced a few minutes after winning the title.

A successor for Kahn was immediately presented: the new Bayern boss will be the club’s long-standing finance director, Jan-Christian Dreesen, who, as a member of the DFL presidium, presented the injured captain Manuel Neuer with a copy of the championship trophy at 5:41 p.m. But who will replace Salihamidzic (“I would have liked to have continued”)?

The search for a new sports director is of course already underway. And apparently Bayern have an old acquaintance in mind: Max Eberl. This is reported by “Bild” and Sky. According to the pay TV broadcaster, there was a meeting with Eberl before the game in Cologne.

Eberl just started in Leipzig

A transfer would be quite spicy. In 2021, Bayern had already poached two important pillars of Saxony with coach Julian Nagelsmann and defense chief Dayot Upamecano. In the case of the long-standing Gladbach manager Eberl, there is also the fact that he only started in Leipzig last winter after a health-related break. His contract is valid until the summer of 2026.

The former Bayern kicker was already a topic in the club for the successor to Matthias Sammer six years ago. Uli Hoeneß wanted to bring Eberl to Munich at the time. But no agreement was reached. Instead of Eberl, who will play with Leipzig in the cup final against Eintracht Frankfurt next week, Salihamidzic came.

At the presentation, Hoeneß said: “Many names have been floating around. It was effectively two. Those were the only ones we really bothered with. And I think you can feel really good in the circle of Eberl and Lahm.”
