Il 4 maggio 2023 il Napoli he mathematically won his own third championship at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium in Fuorigrotta after the goal by Osimhen against Udinese. The celebration at the end of the match was so intense that the seismic noise produced was recorded by the INGV seismographs, installed at approx 2 km away from the stadium – so be careful, this is not a earthquake in a strict but simple sense”background noise” recorded by the instruments. This is possible because the instruments have a very high sensitivity and therefore it is not uncommon that they also record events not directly connected to earthquakes but to daily life, such as vehicle traffic for example.
To better understand what happened let’s analyze a graph on the seismic noise registered in the area from midnight of the April 26th at 12:00 of the 5 maggio 2023. In blu seismic noise in the band is reported 10-15 Hz, i.e. the one linked mainly to vehicle traffic; in orange the frequency of is reported 2 Hzalso associated with vehicular traffic but characteristic of stadium celebrations.
The swing of the two curves is quite similar during working days while the first “stadium” peak is the registered orange one Sunday 30 April at 4.22pmwhen Napoli scored in the 62nd minute against Salernitana. The analysis of the signal made it possible to confirm her origin at the stadium and it is clearly evident that the exultation of the fans (orange peak) corresponds to a negative peak of the blue curve – given that there were fewer vehicles on the street and everyone was concentrated on the match.
