Streich speaks of mistakes regarding the Kübler nomination

Lukas Kübler had to be substituted in the 31st minute in the game against 1. FC Union Berlin (2:4). The reason for this was circulatory problems, as Freiburg’s head coach Christian Streich said at the press conference afterwards. In retrospect, according to the coach, it was wrong to put Kübler in the starting XI.

Streich, who was visibly disappointed with the result given the importance of the game, explained self-critically: “I made a mistake: I set up Kübler, who was ill that week. I thought everything was okay, but nothing was okay. He got circulatory problems after 25 minutes. The fact that I set him up was very bad for the team.”

Until Kübler was substituted (Roland Sallai came on for him) Union Berlin had led 1-0. It was a first half hour that Freiburg – at least felt – “played with one less”, said Streich.

It is conceivable that Kübler will now be taken out of training again to fully recover from his symptoms. The defender should be enough for the upcoming home game against VfL Wolfsburg.
