The opening of the 2023 SEA Games was held at the Marodoc National Stadium, Techo, Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Friday (5/5/2023). There was an incident of the Indonesian flag upside down.
It happened at the moment before the climax of the opening ceremony of the 2023 SEA Games. In the singing session performed by a local singer, the participant’s flag bearer was seen behind him carrying an upside down Indonesian flag.
Not red and white, but white and red can be seen on the flag that the dancer is carrying. The number is more than one.
The video of the upside down Indonesian flag being carried by the dancers has been widely circulated on social media. You can see that there are three Indonesian flags upside down.
Cambodia itself has apologized for the incident where the Indonesian flag was upside down SEA Games 2023. This was conveyed by the Secretary General of the Indonesian NOC Committee, Harry Warganegara.
“Cambodia has apologized directly to us, and acted quickly so that the incident was not repeated at the opening ceremony,” said Harry, in a KOI release, Friday (5/5/2023).
The incident where the Indonesian flag was upside down previously occurred at the SEA Games in Malaysia, 2017. At that time, the Indonesian flag was printed upside down in the activity guidebook.
This incident caused a stir, to the point that the Indonesian people were offended. The Malaysian government immediately apologized for the negligence.
