The Women’s National Basketball Team Meets Its First AmeriCup Opponents

The Women’s National Basketball Team teams will be measured Canada, Dominican Republic, Mexico y Colombia in the first round of the tournament AmeriCupwhich will take place from July 1 to 9 in the Dome of the León Fair, Guanajuato, Mexico.

The Puerto Ricans met the opponents of the group stage this Wednesday, when the draw for the sports fair was held. Puerto Rico is part of Group B.

In Group A they will play Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, USA y Cuba.

According to the format of the competition, each team will play one match against each opponent in their group. The first four of each section will qualify for the quarterfinals, while those who finish last will be eliminated.

In the quarterfinals, the first will meet the fourth and the second with the third from face group. The winners will qualify for the semifinals. The first of that stage will play for the gold medal, while the last two will play for the bronze.

The teams that finish in the top two positions guarantee a spot at World Pre-Olympic for the Paris 2024 Games. Those who remain from position three to six will play in the Pre-Olympic of the Americasfrom where two more teams will go to the World Cup.

The United States is the current two-time champion of the competition after winning the 2019 and 2021 editions.
