This is a season belonging to the newcomers of the second league! First, Polonia Warszawa, which last season played in the third league, won the promotion to the first league, and now Kotwica Kołobrzeg, who also played in the third league last season, is one step away from promotion to the back of the Ekstraklasa. The team currently led by Maciej Bartoszek was a sensational leader at the halfway point of the season.

Sensational promotion to the first league will become a fact? It wasn’t always colorful
Although at first glance, the history of Kotwica may seem downright sweet, not everything in the second league worked as it should. Marcin Płuska, the coach who was the main author of the sensational autumn, was dismissed at the beginning of April. Reason? For a long time, Kotwica played checkered and won only two of the next 12 matches. At the time of the coach’s dismissal, the club from Kołobrzeg was in second place and was three points behind Polonia Warszawa.
The owners of Kotwica decided to react and for now the decision to dismiss the young coach is defending itself. Maciej Bartoszek came to Kołobrzeg. The coach, known primarily for his work in Korona Kielce, has a great start in the new club. Of his first six matches, he managed to win four and draw one. He lost only to Polonia Warszawa and it was the only game during his tenure in which Kotwica lost goals.
In January, information appeared in the media that Kotwica had financial problems. At that time, the club was even threatened with losing its license for the 2nd league. Today, one step away from promotion to the first league, Kotwica’s financial problems are no longer discussed. The fact that the club is not free from them, however, is reminded by a communication from the licensing commission. The first league license was granted with financial and infrastructural supervision. The club was also fined PLN 1,000 for violating criterion F.04 of the license manual, i.e. for having overdue liabilities. The city supports Kotwica with the amount of PLN 1.28 million, which is very high for the conditions of the second league.
The anchor must score four points. Promotion to the first league possible sooner
On Sunday, May 28, Kotwica will definitely try to get closer to the promotion. The team from Kołobrzeg does not have to look back. It is enough to score at least four points in the last two matches. The first match will be played away from KKS Kalisz, which also hopes to win promotion through the play-offs. In the last match, Kotwica will face Pogoń Siedlce, which is no longer fighting for anything this season. So it seems that a direct promotion is the most achievable goal. According to Piotr Klimek, who estimates the chances of promotion from the second league using mathematical models, two rounds before the end of the season Kotwica had as much as 62.2 percent. chance to be in the top two. Pretty good result for a newcomer.
Kotwica Kołobrzeg has never played higher than in the second league in its history. If the club is promoted to the first division, it will achieve a historic success. He just needs to dot the “i”.
