Excellent day for the Piacenza player, which started with the ippon on the Dutch Michel Guikema. After the setback with the Kazakh Yerbolat Syzdyk, Thomas again surpassed the Pole Jakub Muniz Acosta and, by ippon, both the German Julius Glaser and the Swiss Silvano Cori. In the final for the bronze medal, unfortunately, Sassi was overtaken by the Azerbaijani Mahammad Mamishov.
