The legendary coach is in intensive care in a New York hospital. This is reported by “RTL.de”. He was diagnosed with lung cancer last summer.
The master trainer from 1992 (then with the VfB Stuttgart) is quoted there: “I’m in the hospital in New York in the intensive care unit. So you can’t count on me for the time being.”

Daum was only a few weeks ago a guest in “SPORT1-Doppelpass”, where he spoke openly about his serious illness. Before that, he was also a guest on the ARD morning show and uses every opportunity to encourage his fellow human beings to have check-ups.
Daum had in the 80s at the 1. FC Köln his first coaching position in the Bundesliga. There he quickly made a name for himself as the “loudspeaker of the league”. He was twice runner-up with the Cologne team.
After a spectacular ejection in Cologne, he finally achieved the big hit with VfB Stuttgart: champion 1992. His legendary substitution error in the Champions League qualifier against Leeds United (he brought on a fourth foreign player) was only a small dent in his Career.

In 2001 he was supposed to be national coach, but his cocaine affair ruined this dream. Later he also worked again in Cologne (promotion 2008) and at Eintracht Frankfurt (relegation 2011).
