This year, Cai Qichang, the current vice president of the Legislative Academy, was invited to give a speech at his alma mater. With the theme of “Life choices, between wanting and not wanting”, he encouraged graduates to embark on a social journey and face the future with confidence and courage.

Cai Qichang said that it was almost 30 years since he graduated, and this was the first time he participated in the graduation ceremony of Tunghai University. In the past, he pursued freedom and chose not to attend the graduation ceremony. Therefore, he cherishes the speech as a VIP this time. He revealed that when he was admitted to the history department of Tunghai University, he was persuaded by his father to transfer to the department, but he still persisted in studying all the way to graduate with a master’s degree. Seven and a half years gradually allowed him to explore the future path.

Cai Qichang reminded the more than 1,400 graduate students present that no matter what stage of life they are in, they always have to make a choice between “what to do and what not to do”, but students should know that no matter what choice they make, they will have to pay a price. He suggested that before the age of 30, you should give yourself more opportunities to try. Taking himself as an example, he didn’t know that he would become a legislator at the age of 35, and he didn’t know that he would become the chairman of the Chinese Major League Baseball. Using the metaphor of the number of innings in baseball, he said that graduation is only in the top half of the second inning. Donghai has a good educational environment and a strong alumni group, so you must face the future with confidence and courage.

Zhang Guoen, the principal of Donghai, said in his speech that the 65th graduates of Donghai are facing the two major turmoil and challenges of the epidemic and ChatGPT, but they must not be discouraged. We hope that the graduates will move forward with firm perseverance, always maintain loyalty to values, and cultivate interpersonal relationships. Relationships, applying what you have learned and making good use of artificial intelligence will come to the fore in the future.

Donghai chairman Wu Qingmai told the graduates that Donghai alumni have strong cohesion and will receive support and more opportunities for cooperation in the future.
