Getting a bronze medal in the hockey championship is great, tomorrow the party at the Freedom Monument will be great, but declaring a holiday is cheap populism, sorry.

Today, 9th grade children have to take the centralized exam in Latvian. Some parents are confused whether the exam will take place and whether their children should go to school.
Excursions for children at school. Will they happen? What about music school? For scheduled swimming lessons? Child’s long-awaited dentist appointment? Will you postpone it for half a year when there is a free space next time?! So why did such a huge mess have to be made on such a wonderful day?!

Is the long-awaited holiday – graduation – tomorrow for the kindergartner? Wake the child in the morning/not? How to explain it to a child? And how to negotiate with cakes and flowers so that they don’t get damaged?

I have just a few questions for you that arose at 11:55 p.m. – is the kindergarten open tomorrow? Doctor’s appointment valid? Are court hearings taking place? Wages should be calculated according to what tariff and where to get money for the holiday tariff?
I understand that you are full and not interested, but maybe make an effort? https://t.co/cTas8BLNGt— Artūrs Zvejsalnieks (@AZvejsalnieks) May 28, 2023
People believe that the decision was made without taking into account the reality and that the works are planned and cannot be canceled easily.
Sorry, but this is an absolute disregard for reality. Members of the Saeima could take a look at some school principals’ chats to get a sense of the euphoria. It doesn’t look like today is a holiday.

It looks like everyone will work the same way on Monday, because the work is planned and cannot be canceled easily. Except our MPs.

This holiday is a kind of middle finger to everyone who is waiting in line for a medical examination, parents of small children, as well as those young people who would like a holiday the most, but still have to take the exam tomorrow.
Have a nice day everyone else!— Gundega Skruze-Janava (@GundegaFelicity) May 28, 2023
Some people are also very confused about what companies and government institutions will work and do their work today.
Colleagues who are smart – if a court hearing is scheduled for tomorrow, but the Saeima voted at 11:55 PM that it is a holiday, then how can you not go?

Can someone explain in simple language what this official holiday means?
