Andrea Mayr sensationally won gold at the mountain running home world championships in Tyrol on Wednesday. The 43-year-old from Upper Austria won the vertical race after 7.1 km over 1,020 meters in altitude. Mayr, who won silver at the World Championships in Thailand last year, was crowned mountain running world champion for the seventh time.
Mayr, who took 48:14, took the lead about halfway through the race, then was caught by Kenya’s Philaries Heruto Kisang, but had more staying power in the end. Bronze went to American Grayson Murphy.
