Football captain Ján Kotvas vulgarly attacked a Ukrainian player wearing an opponent’s jersey. The incident occurred during the final match of the season between teams from Horoměřice and Velké Přílep in III. class of the district Prague-západ. And since Kotvas is an officer of the Army of the Czech Republic, the Military Police will deal with it, as Defense Minister Jana Černochová confirmed.
Under normal circumstances, the offense would be subject to review by the appropriate disciplinary committee. However, the accused person holds the position of an officer in the Czech army, which led to an investigation by the Military Police. Deník.cz drew attention to this particular case. “Yes, I know about it and the Military Police is investigating it,” Černochová said on social networks.
Martin Opatrný, head of the disciplinary commission of the Prague-West Championship, informed Deník.cz that they were tasked with cooperating and providing all the necessary documentation to the police regarding the match of the second lowest competition.
“The explosive moment came just before the break. Referee Jan Hruška dealt with him with a red card for the leader of Velké Přílep. ‘You Ukrainian scumbag, instead of fighting, you play football here, you Ukrainian scumbag,’ the judge described the offense. According to Deník.cz, the visiting official was upset by the fall of a foreigner in the colors of the home team, Marian Fedyšyn from Ukraine,” writes the Sport.cz website. “According to the referee, it happened after an illegal intervention by the visiting player, who received a yellow card for it. However, the leader reacted by shouting that the Ukrainian was simulating, and immediately he should have roasted him with the mentioned insults.”
In the field of football, a financial penalty of up to 100,000 crowns and a ban on future participation for up to fifteen years can be imposed for such an offence, as stated in the regulations. However, in the civil domain, the procedure may be different in this particular scenario. Anyone who publicly insults a nation, its language, race or ethnic group can be punished by imprisonment for up to two years, according to the Criminal Code.
