The Attiva Kids Junior project in our school (Polo 1 in Galatina) ended on 6 June, which saw lower secondary school students actively engaged in two sports, basketball and volleyball.
During the school year, starting from the month of January, moments of training and play were held in relation to the two disciplines with expert federal coaches, Laura Pendenza for volleyball and Sandro Argentieri for basketball.
At the end of the course there was a moment of celebration, but at the same time, a challenge between the various classes, which faced each other in a correct and healthy competition.
So on 31 May the sports hall “F. Panico” in via Chieti was filled with student fans attending all the classes of the lower secondary school.
On 6 June, however, the gymnasium in via Toma saw all the second classes, who were involved in the project, challenge each other.
The gold medal was won for basketball by 1C for the first, 3D for the third and the match between 2D and 2F ended in a draw; for volleyball, on the other hand, 2B, but when sport is involved, they are all winners.
Attiva Kids Junior gave everyone the opportunity to approach sport, both those who play it individually but above all those who had never had the opportunity to compete in some disciplines. An opportunity also to allow a sporting orientation, perhaps giving indications to those who did not practice a certain discipline to be able to approach it with awareness. One of the main aspects, however, was finally being able to return to moments of healthy aggregation in the school, after the constraints of the pandemic, finally seeing the students free and serene to be able to experience a moment of exchange with their classmates, outside the classic lesson. Sport is a fundamental component for the development of every individual, especially in the youngest, due to the educational function it plays, as also affirmed by the anthropologist Marcel Mauss according to whom practicing sport is also a “social fact”, that is to say composite system of activities that concerns different fields, from the purely sporting one up to the participation in the real social life. The school, through this project, was able to confirm the importance of the training moment, both at the motor level, but also in terms of the contribution to the formation of the students’ personalities, to the improvement of health, but also the inclusion and respect for the rules.
