He once made Dynamo Dresden a champion and led Energie Cottbus to the Bundesliga: Of course, cult coach Ede Geyer (78) is still feverish and suffering with his former clubs.
Regional league Cottbus lost the relegation first leg for the third division against Unterhaching 1:2.
Geyer: “That touches me, it’s also a certain disillusionment and disappointment. I was surprised that the team couldn’t put their stamp on the game in front of 18,000 spectators.”
The reasons? Geyer: “Perhaps there has been too much talk in the past about the absurdity of this relegation. You should have ticked it off and accepted. That’s the way it is now, that’s the end of it. There’s no point in whining.”
Geyer was really surprised by the reaction at HSV after not being promoted to the Bundesliga in the relegation against VfB Stuttgart (0:3/1:3).
Geyer: “Their coach (Tim Walter, ed.) said afterwards that they had played a good season. So I ask myself: Are they crazy? If they had ascended, it would have been like this. But Hamburg, who used to be my favorite team many years ago, just like to play in the second division…”
For the coming season, the
Geyer was a coach in Cottbus, Dresden and at FC Sachsen Leipzig. How is he looking at the football east at the moment?
Geyer: “I was sorry that Zwickau was relegated. Aue and Halle also fought to survive. In the newspapers, the last few pages always belong to those who don’t have much to say. Unfortunately there are a lot of Eastern clubs there…”
