At the Monumental de Núñez, Fluminense was beaten 2-0 by River Plate this Wednesday (07/06). The team, which had the tricolors filling the visiting sector, gave themselves to the field. From start to finish, Tricolor sought to impose its style of play and created good opportunities, but failed to score. Even with the result of the fifth round, the team remains in the lead of Group D of the competition, with 9 points.
Under the command of coach Fernando Diniz, the team returns to the field on Sunday (11/06) for the tenth round of the Brazilian Championship. The confrontation, against Goiás, takes place at 18:30, in Serra Dourada.
FIRST TIME
In a Libertadores mood, the match started agitated. Fluminense’s first good arrival came in the 11th minute, when Samuel Xavier advanced through the middle, sent a bomb from outside the area and stopped at the goalkeeper. At 22 minutes, Tricolor managed a quick transition from defense to attack in a launch from Cano to Arias. The Colombian played for the middle, Samuel made the light cut and Lima hit close, close to the crossbar.
In the 33rd minute, the team stole the ball in the offensive zone, and André, after playing with Ganso, found a pass to Cano, who scored on the outside. At 38 minutes, Arias exchanged passes with Guga and played low to Ganso inside the area. The number 10 tried to take it from the goalkeeper and sent it over. In the sequence, Arias took advantage of the opponent’s mistake, invaded the area and hit hard outside.
SECOND TIME
At 4 minutes of the second stage, Beltrán opened the scoring for River Plate. At 16 minutes, Arias went through the marking on the left side and found Lima well positioned in the area, but the midfielder hit over the top. At 19, Lima crossed and Cano deflected with a header, demanding a good defense from the goalkeeper. With good moves, the team continued looking for a draw and reached the 27th minute with danger, when, on the counterattack, Ganso found Cano, who tried to pass to Arias in the area, but the defense made the cut.
At 37 minutes, Cano got up in the area, the goalkeeper let go and Nino took the opportunity to deflect. At left, Arias crossed back to the defender, who headed it out. Three minutes later, Lima crossed and Lelê headed the goalkeeper’s hands. In extra time, Barco extended it to the opposing team, from the penalty spot.
