Since 1996, the year in which the Conade National Games (formerly the National Olympiad) were created, Morelos had never won a gold medal in the badminton discipline, until Emiliano Carrera Gutiérrez, from the Under-15 singles category, did so at win two sets in a row against the representative of Aguascalientes, Rodrigo Sánchez.
The athlete from the town of Acatlipa, municipality of Temixco, achieved the feat at the Club Dorados headquarters, Oaxtepec.
