The 34th matchday was “dramaturgically hard to beat,” writes Müller via “esmuellert”. After the 3-1 defeat at home against Leipzig, the disappointment was huge, but he “didn’t want to give it any space and tried to counteract it immediately” – and he saw himself confirmed after the wild season finale.

Bayern’s game in Cologne was “a reflection of our mixed second half”: great lead, missed chances, then suddenly the equalizer – only Musiala’s 2-1 winner brought salvation; “a world-class goal for the championship,” emphasized Müller.

After the final whistle in Cologne, the big tremors were announced, in Dortmund it was 2: 2 and the game was still going on. But in the end, from Bayern’s point of view, everything fell into place – and it was celebrated. Because of such events, “he loves football,” said Müller, adding: “We are all children of the Bundesliga and football. And this final was just amazing.”

“The crowning glory” of “perhaps the most troubled year of my career” was the joint championship celebration with the women on Sunday at Marienplatz. Now the veteran is looking forward to switching off a bit and “just doing other things” because “this special season with the World Cup in winter was very intense for me. On top of that, the chaotic year at FC Bayern.”

The crowning glory at Marienplatz

It’s chaotic. First the surprising dismissal of Julian Nagelsmann and then immediately after the championship won at the last minute, the separation of board boss Oliver Kahn and board member sport Hasan Salihamidzic.

“It’s perfectly clear that your release could work like this in the fast-moving football business,” said Müller, revealing that he was “excited to see how things will continue”. Müller pointed out that he also got to know both of them as players, “I also got to know them as people off the field. And so I have and always had a good relationship with them. I will definitely meet the two of them on the golf course .”
