The Sports area of ​​the Berja City Council put the finishing touch to this sports course last Friday, May 26, with a closing party for the Municipal Sports Schools in the Berja Sports Pavilion. The closing ceremony began with exhibition matches for the pre-soccer school, small volleyball and small basketball; exhibitions of the Judo, taekwondo and rhythmic gymnastics school. The mayor of Berja, José Carlos Lupión, expressed his satisfaction “for the great participation that the different sports schools have and that in the end results in a better physical and mental development of the little ones, for whom we always promote healthy habits ”. After the exhibitions, there was a presentation of the different sports schools to take a great family photo. During the event, the different merits obtained by the Sports Schools were shown, such as the judo classes, which also have participants from other municipalities such as Dalías and Laujar de Andarax, obtaining silver medals in provincial competitions. The School of Rhythmic Gymnastics has fifty students and they participate in different tournaments at the Andalusian level to reach the competitions of the phase and final in the Andalusian Federation of Rhythmic Gymnastics, obtaining various gold and bronze medals. The Basketball School has achieved the participation of two teams in the Provincial Sports Games, a mixed cadet that was in eleventh position and a male child that finished in fifth position. The School of Taekwondo and Club Hana participates in the Spanish Championship held in Almería, obtaining a bronze medal in black belt combat first dan Michael Fernández Ruiz. The Berjanatura Mountaineering and Climbing School brings together 55 athletes and has the honor of being the school that contributes the most participants to the Almeria Climbing Team. The Volleyball Sports School has 116 athletes, several classified in the Provincial League and participants in the CADEBA Base Andalucía Championship, they also organized the V Ciudad de Berja Volleyball Tournament, with the participation of more than 500 athletes divided into 64 teams from from the provinces of Almería, Granada, Málaga, Jaén and Murcia. The Berja Swimming Club has about twenty athletes who have managed to be champions of the Almería Provincial Council Cup, the Almería Province Club Cup and the Almería Municipal Sports Games in some of their categories, some of them reaching the top 3 first place in its category. The Sports School of Soccer and Futsal brings together 190 athletes divided into ten teams that have achieved numerous classifications, some of them becoming league champions and promotions.
