Black Rickers Celebrate Completion of New Facilities and Success on the Field

After years of wandering far from their town to satisfy their passion, the Black Rickers finally benefit from their own infrastructures, the construction of which has just been completed. “We were called baseball gypsies because we had to move to Namur, Louvain-la-Neuve and other places to be able to play. For a year and a half, we have had our own field and last January , we have started major works there. It’s a real plus. So we wanted to organize a party for the occasion”underlines David Laurent, the president.

Nearly 500 people, last Sunday, pushed the doors of this new complex, installed in the heart of the village, rue Landuyt, and today renamed in the American way: “Landuyt Park”.

A success that pleases the members. “The new ground inevitably attracted new members, continues David Laurent. We went from 80 to 120 people. We also benefit from a large chalet that we share with the boss where we have set up a bar. A second chalet is under construction, which will allow us to install changing rooms there.”

To celebrate its new facilities with dignity, the club organized several exhibition matches which had their little success.

On the way to 4 titles

The many spectators also witnessed the eleventh victory in as many league games for the club’s first team, which plays in Division 2 and has been undefeated for… 35 games. “We were champions in D3 last season and there, we are on track for theto be again and maybe consider a move up to Division 1, proudly notes the Castello-brainois president. We also have three teams that are currently at the top of their league. We could therefore celebrate four titles at the end of the season (Editor’s note: in October). We had three last season.”

Not bad for a club which has 7 teams, including 2 exclusively female teams, and which since 2007 has gradually imposed its name on the Belgian baseball sporting landscape.
